ABSTRACT | ||
This study aims to offer a critical and analytical viewpoint on the issue of resettlement, development-induced displacement, and its multifaceted effects. Large dams, industrial zones, mining, roads, urbanization, and other development projects cause rural and indigenous groups to relocate from their ancestral homelands and means of subsistence, causing profound social, economic, and cultural disruption. The study examines the reasons behind displacement brought on by development, how displaced people's lives change both before and after eviction, and the strengths and weaknesses of resettlement initiatives. It specifically addresses problems like land loss, shifting livelihoods, poverty brought on by debt and uncertainty, social network disintegration and the deterioration of cultural identity and spatial memory. Using a qualitative methodology, the study highlights the necessity of development justice, sustainable resettlement, and a human rights-based policy framework while synthesizing data from research journals, policy documents, secondary literatur. In this approach, it suggests that development be rethought as a fair and inclusive process of change rather than only as economic growth. | ||
