ABSTRACT | ||
The ancient handwritten manuscripts of the Bengali language are not merely linguistic expressions but represent a profound cultural heritage. This paper explores the historical evolution, artistic attributes, and socio-cultural significance of pre-modern Bengali manuscripts. Starting from the palm-leaf and birch-bark manuscripts preserved in ancient universities like Takshashila and Nalanda to the flourishing manuscript culture of medieval Bengal, every stage reflects a silent artistic legacy. The study highlights the structural beauty of these handwritten texts, their intricate calligraphy, and the unparalleled craftsmanship of scribes. Additionally, it discusses the process of manuscript reproduction and its impact on society. These handwritten manuscripts not only preserved literary traditions but also acted as milestones in the development of Bengali literature. These valuable relics from the past are not merely objects of pride for our heritage; they symbolize the immortality of Bengali literary art. The findings of this research emphasize the responsibility of the present generation to preserve this legacy for future ones. | ||
