ABSTRACT | ||
21st century is the age of technology- science- art- modernity- ultra modernity. Social civilization is rapidly advancing on the path of super ultra-modernity. The environment, people, people's thoughts, values, views and the entire society are changing with the civilization. The reflection and influence of this changing society is also observed in literature. The novel world of Bengali literature of Tripura is not so different from it. The novelists of Tripura acknowledge the influence of the contemporary era and bring out the civilization-society-time in their literary works. In their novels, sometimes the present is picturised, sometimes the images of the past are visualized through reminiscences. Sometime the story of happiness, sorrow and painful or happy journey of life of a particular gender is also symbolized in literature. In this article, an effort has been made to highlight how the position of women has changed in the ever-changing context of Tripura in the light of the novel ‘Langtarai Queen' written by Kalyani Bhattacharya, one of Tripura's eminent novelists. In Kalyani Bhattacharya's work, the position of women in the contemporary social, political and economic context is well presented. The novel narrates the lives of three generations of Bengali women in Tripura after its accession to India as a state after independence. Besides, the suffering and helplessness of the women of the royal family of Tripura have been skilfully blossomed in the novel. No matter how modern we are, women are still trapped in the cage of patriarchy behind modernity. Novelist Kalyani Bhattacharya has presented the stories of these captives in her novel in her own style. Kalyani Bhattacharya, a modern-minded writer, left time behind and tried to paint a picture of the future in the novel. Various aspects of women's life have come up in the novel in a simple manner. All these issues are tried to explain and analyse in this article. | ||
