ABSTRACT
This research article analyses women's issues, roles, and social perceptions in Hinduism and Islam in the light of feminist philosophy. The treatment of women in ancient social institutions in religious rituals, scriptures, and myths is not merely a matter of religious discipline, but also a reflection of power dynamics between men and women in society. By exploring Hindu texts such as the Vedas, Upanishads, Manu smriti, Ramayana, Mahabharata etc. and on the other hand, the primary sources of Islam, especially the Qur'an and Hadith, the study reveals how women were once glorified as symbols of power, motherhood, and respect but over time, their roles became confined to a secondary within society. The main purpose of this study is to assess the influence of a patriarchal worldview on the determination of women's status in the scriptures and religious practices of two religions and to reread this position from the perspective of feminist philosophy. The primary goal of this research is to assess how patriarchal mindsets influenced women's status in both religions and to reconsider these roles through a feminist lens. The study employed analytical and comparative approaches to achieve this. The work is limited to selected religious contexts and verses. From a feminist view, there is a contradiction: religion often respects women, but at the same time, limits their freedom in social and personal life.
However, with the emergence of contemporary feminist thought and human rights consciousness, there is an urgent need to reconsider and reconstruct this position. Therefore, the importance of this study lies in its attempt to reassess the position of women in religious and social contexts, which may make future discussions about religion, culture, and gender equality deeper and more realistic. There is no fundamental contradiction between religious principles and feminist philosophy. Rather, it is the social and historical interpretations that have produced these inequalities. Therefore, only by rereading religious interpretations and combining them with modern feminist consciousness is it possible to establish true women's freedom and fair equality in society. In conclusion, the study asserts that there is no fundamental contradiction between religious principles and feminist philosophy. The inequalities observed today stem from social and historical interpretations rather than the religions themselves. Therefore, only by reinterpreting religious concepts and combining them with modern feminist consciousness is it possible to establish true women's freedom and fair equality in society.
