Bratya Basu’s Ruddhosongeet: A Protest Narrative Against the Establishment
Robiul Seikh, Research Scholar, Department of Bengali, Burdwan University, West Bengal, India
ABSTRACT
Dr. Bratya Basu Roychowdhury’s anti-establishment tone is an important aspect of his writings. His plays have come up with a direct protest against contemporary times and contemporary politics and institutions. We will see the manifestation of Bratya Basu’s protest narrative in his protest narratives in plays like ‘Ruddha Sangeet’ and ‘Winkle Twinkle’. In the 'Ruddha Sangeet' play, on the one hand, the government-institution’s conflict with the artist and the artist’s self-esteem has taken place side by side. Bratya Basu’s anti-establishment tone against the empowerment of the ruling government has taken place in this work. This article examines Bratya Basu’s protest narrative by analyzing the politics reflected in his prose, essays, interviews and other theater personalities’ praise and criticism of his political plays.
