ABSTRACT | ||
In the novel Chaturanga, friendship is not merely a matter of personal feeling; it is the driving force behind the structure of the story, the development of the characters, and the progression of ideological conflict. The relationship between Sachish and Sribilash is the central axis of the novel—where friendship rests on mutual trust, sincerity, and the ability to withstand the tests of time. Despite sharp differences in their worldviews, habits, and even social positions, their bond does not break; rather, these very differences make the relationship more complex and profound. Sachish’s spiritual inclination, philosophical temperament, and detachment from society stand in contrast to Sribilash’s practical thinking, social entanglements, and personal emotions. This opposition between the two creates a dynamic tension within the novel. Yet, that tension never shakes the foundation of their relationship; instead, it guides their decisions, transformations, and self-reflection. The research paper suggests that human bonds are more lasting and effective than ideology, religious thought, or political philosophy. Thus, to understand the narrative of Chaturanga, friendship itself becomes the key—binding together the novel’s philosophy, conflicts, and character evolution into a single thread. | ||
