The skill and expertise that Ramananda Chatterjee (1865-1943) showed in editing magazines ranging from ‘Dasi’, ‘Pradeep’, ‘Dharmabandhu’ to ‘Prabasi’ and ‘The Modern Review’ is astonishing and rare in the world of Indian Journalism. The infinite patience he tested in editing the Bengali periodical ‘Prabasi’ (1901) is instructive for today’s 21st century. Respect for work, patient mentality and perfect professionalism in editing– these were the main Key door of the Ramananda Chatterjee’s editing technique. He got respect, prestige and fame in editing ‘Prabasi’. Ramananda Babu’s field of work was not always smooth. Like the sudden appearance of clouds in a clear sky, many such controversies have been circulating in Ramananda Chatterjee's editorial career. Four topics, like, Controversy over financial rewards for writers, Controversy over the release of the play 'NatirPuja', debate with the 'Vichitra', and Debate with Chittaranjan Das have been raised from such numerous controversies. Did Ramananda Babu himself, the 'expatriate' of Ramananda Babu's devotion, get away from those controversies, or did those controversies remain unanswered? This article is written with the desire to examine some such historical events, the 'stone of contention' of controversial controversies. | ||
