ABSTRACT | ||
Lyric poems are reflections of a poet’s thought and the reader of the poem should have an understanding of poet’s internal realisation of his time and his own self. Nirendranath Chakraborty, an eminent Bengali poet, started writing in the forties, before India got independence. His the then poems consisted of his thoughts and values for Indian struggle for independence, and the poems afterwards reflected some of the riots of Fifties and Sixties. With these in the background, Chakraborty’s poems should have some understandings of the efforts and follies of the petty bourgeoisie class—as he was one of them. It should also contain his own misgivings and errors as a responsible human being. This article tries to understand those standpoints of the poets through discussing some of his poems. | ||
