ABSTRACT | ||
In 1971, during the Liberation War, a significant influx of refugees arrived in the northeastern states of India. Assam became a sanctuary for these refugees. The people of Assam, across all strata of society, came forward to help these helpless individuals who had fled their homeland. Notably, the cultural activists of Assam took special initiatives. Playwrights wrote plays cantered on the Liberation War. The poetry and stories of that time depicted the Liberation War and the life crises of refugees. Self-taught folk poets made the Liberation War the theme of their works. The transformation of East Pakistan into a nation called Bangladesh is a moment of history marked by immense sacrifices and selfless acts of devotion. The memories of the Liberation War remain indelible in fostering unity and secular consciousness. Bangladeshi poet Dilwar wrote a poem dedicated to Assamese poet Atin Das. The literature created in Assam during 1971 about the Liberation War was not solely a product of imagination. Poets and cultural activists primarily drew inspiration from their firsthand accounts of the arriving refugees to create their works. | ||
