ABSTRACT | ||
Swami Vivekananda is one and unique. He had a profound influence on Western culture and thought by promoting Vedanta and Indian spirituality in the West. His influence in America was far-reaching, which spread throughout the world through his eloquence, preaching Vedanta, and establishing the Ramakrishna Math and Mission. As a representative of neo-Vedanta, he gave a modern interpretation of Hinduism and proposed to combine the spiritual wisdom of the East with the science and technology of the West. Through his teachings, the spiritual foundation of nationalism was laid in India and he acted as a cultural bridge between the East and the West. Swamiji, through his lectures in the West, spread the message of unity, love, service, and self-realization among mankind, which gave a new direction to Western spirituality. He was not only a spiritual ambassador of India; he was a modern saint of the world. He preached Hinduism worldwide, but his message was for all- a universal faith based on unity and the values of Vedanta, which gained wide popularity in America. Swamiji's influence on the spiritual world of the West is remarkable. The Vedanta Society in the United States acted like a magnet, and many prominent intellectuals and writers were attracted to this society and played a major role in spreading Swamiji's message of Vedanta in American culture. In my paper, I will try to analyze how Swami Vivekananda's philosophy of Vedanta has influenced Western spiritual thought and consciousness. | ||
