ABSTRACT | ||
This research paper analyses the historical development of Bengali newspapers and the contemporary conflict between truth and power from philosophical and ethical perspectives. Is the idealistic foundation of newspapers committed to truth, or has it become an instrument of power's oppression and suppression? This question forms the central axis of the analysis. The paper highlights the truth-oriented stance of Bengali journalism in the context of 19th-century nationalist and intellectual periodicals, while simultaneously examining the structure of 21st-century corporate-controlled and politically influenced media. Drawing on Foucault’s concept of the relationship between knowledge and power, Habermas’s theory of the public sphere, and Gandhi’s notion of ethical journalism, it evaluates the role of newspapers. The study demonstrates how newspapers function on one hand as a medium of free expression, and on the other hand as a vehicle for propagating the discourse of power. This research aims to contribute to a renewed examination of the interrelationship between journalistic ethics, narrative construction, and philosophical inquiry in the context of newspapers. | ||
