ABSTRACT | ||
Inclusive education for children
with neurodevelopmental disorders refers to a system of education that ensures
equal access to all types and levels of educational institutions in the state,
according to their individual abilities along with equal opportunities and
facilities. This research paper analyzes the current status, challenges and
prospects of inclusive education in the context of Bangladesh for children with
neurodevelopmental conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention
Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Intellectual Disability (ID) and
Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD).The objective of the study is to identify
effective strategies to ensure the inclusion of these children in education and
social participation. Through the analysis of both qualitative and quantitative
data, it is observed that although Bangladesh has policies and legal frameworks
in place, there are significant limitations in implementation. These include a
shortage of trained teachers, lack of awareness, infrastructural constraints
and prevailing social stigma. Additionally, the lack of family and
community-based support hinders the full development of these children. The
study emphasizes strengthening inclusive education systems, increasing teacher
training, ensuring accessibility to education and raising public awareness.
Enhancing inclusive education for children with neurodevelopmental disorders will
be reflected in both micro and macro level planning and public policy. This, in
turn, can help reduce economic and social disparities between the mainstream
population and individuals with neurodevelopmental conditions. The research
also highlights the necessity of coordinated efforts between government and
non-government organizations.The findings suggest that implementing a
comprehensive and inclusive education policy can significantly improve the
capabilities of children with neurodevelopmental disorders, thereby increasing
their social and economic participation and contributing to the achievement of
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). | ||
