Manchitra Paul, Assistant Professor, Department of Bengali, Rabindranath Tagore University Hojai, Assam, India
ABSTRACT | ||
What is a manuscript? Until the
invention of the printing press, all works were written by hand. And these
handwritten works are called manuscripts. Just as the history of writing
manuscripts is very old, so is the system of preserving manuscripts. There are
various manuscript collections in different parts of the country to preserve
manuscripts. For example, the Normal School, a teacher training institute in
Silchar, the headquarters of the Barak Valley, has a system of preserving
manuscripts. Many manuscripts on the subject of nuns have been preserved in
this institution at different times. The manuscripts were collected from
different parts of South Assam before independence. At that time, Srihatta was
part of Assam. The languages of the manuscripts were Sanskrit and
Bengali. The manuscripts are on Ramayana, Mahabharata and Gita etc. There are a
total of 78 manuscripts on Ramayana in this collection. The poets of the manuscripts
are Krttivasa Ojha, Bhavanidasa, Adbhut Acarya, Gangadasa Sen, Dvija Durgadasa, Dvija Gangaram and Manohar Sen. But
this is an unknown topic to many. This important topic will be presented in the
article under discussion.
