ABSTRACT | ||
In the novel ‘Pallisamaj’ a vivid and realistic reflection of rural life and its social crises is prominently observed. Various forms of social conflict, tension, superstition, and class-based divisions within the rural community are clearly depicted. Alongside highlighting the problems inherent in the social structure, the novel also explores the possibilities of social reconstruction, where women play a significant representative role. The objective of this research paper is to analyze the representative position of women in ‘Pallisamaj’ and to examine how their roles are reflected in the process of social reconstruction. The novel demonstrates that women in rural society are not confined merely to the domestic sphere; rather, they serve as important bearers of social values, morality, and human compassion. The empathy, self-sacrifice, moral strength, and social awareness of women function as powerful forces in resolving social crises. Furthermore, through the portrayal of female characters, the novelist illustrates that the presence and active participation of women are essential for bringing about social change. At times, they emerge as voices of protest, while at other times they act as supportive forces in promoting social reform and education. Thus, women are not merely passive members of society but emerge as crucial representatives in the process of social reconstruction. This research aims to discuss the role, social position, and representative significance of women in ‘Pallisamaj’. Through this analysis, it becomes evident that women play a profoundly important and relevant role in resolving social crises and in building a humane and progressive society. | ||
