Creation: A Contextual Study of Nabaneeta Dev Sen’s Selected Short Stories Sarala Mandi, Asst. Prof, Dept. of Bengali, Netaji Mahavidyalaya, West Bengal, India | ||
ABSTRACT | ||
Nabaneeta
Dev Sen was one of the foremost creators in Bengali short fiction who gave
artistic expression to the varied experiences of ordinary people. In her
selected short stories, the everyday joys and sorrows, struggles, laughter,
happiness, and pain common lives find vivid portrayal. She sought to capture
these aspects with a subtle and sensitive perspective eye. Her distinctive
feature is presenting ordinary life in a simple manner without exaggeration. In
her short stories, relationship between men and women, social realities,
education, politics and even psychological conflicts in the diverse contexts of
both urban and rural life are vividly portrayed. Through a blend of satire, wit
and a human perspective, she has beautifully transformed the ordinary events of
everyday life into art. The readers of
her short stories do not merely enjoy the narratives; rather they perceive the
hidden truths and deeper significance of ordinary life. Nabaneeta Dev Sen has
demonstrated that ordinary life is the primary source of literature, and that a
writer’s sensitive vision can transform that life into art. A distinct
dimension of women’s experiences finds unique expression in her stories. She
portrays women’s struggles, social constraints, and their yearning for freedom
in a very natural way. As a result, a feminist perspective is also reflected in
her narratives. | ||
