ABSTRACT | ||
This paper explores the historical context of
non-binary identities and examines their relationship with society and the
world. It seeks to understand why societies tend to prioritize binary thinking
and how this tendency leads to various forms of gender-based discrimination. The
central focus of the paper is to understand the struggle of the individuals
from the LGBTQIA+ community.
Ancient Indian society often emphasized
hetero-normative, reproduction-centered relationships. But if we look deeper,
we can find that there are plenty of references also in texts like the Ramayana
and Mahabharata where diverse sexual orientations, same-sex
relationships, and gender fluidity have been mentioned. This paper attempts to
address objections raised against such identities and try to defend them by
providing textual evidence from Ancient Indian literature. | ||
