The Perceptibility of Composite Objects: A Review in the Light of Nyāya Philosophy
Bhaskar Paul, Research Scholar, Department of Philosophy, Jadavpur University, West Bengal, India
ABSTRACT
Almost all of us strongly believe not only in the reality of compound objects like jar, table etc. but also recognize that we do perceive those objects in suitable situaltion. But there are philosophers like Buddhist who beg to deffer from this commonsense view, either by denying the reality of external objects or by launching the thesis that, we perceive only the components in the name of objects like jar and table. Nyāya-Vaiśeṣikas, commonly familiar as a defender of a robust form of realism, have tried their best to retain the common-sense-view by dismissing Buddhist claim. In this paper and attempt would be made to revisit and cross examine the arguments that Nyāya and Vaiśeṣika adduce to establish the possibility and perceptibility of compound objects.
