ABSTRACT | ||
Saiyad Mustafa Siraj is an author of fifties of 20th century. He was born and raised in Murshidabad District. His short stories reflect the village life of Murshidabad. His writings describe the lifestyle of lower caste people like ‘bagdi’, ‘bauri’, ‘bayen’, ‘hanri’ etc living in Murshidabad district. Their society, culture, language, religion, customs can be observed in his writings. He also showed that how their lifestyle become changed over the time. They are leaving villages and moving towards the cities. The younger generation is leaving rural professions and looking to work in cities in the hope of earning more. Their mindset is gradually changing. Saiyad Mustafa Siraj has highlited this change in village life over time in his short stories as well as he also depicts the transition of people from the lower classes to the middle class. | ||
