ABSTRACT | ||
The primary need of human is food. As
they have evolved from food gatherers to food producers, the type of food eat
has changed. Time to time humans have experimented with food and evolved it
from just a dish to the masterpiece of craftmanship. Gradually, food has become
an identity of the culture of any community.
In patriarchal society cooking is
associated with the idea of woman. People believe that in a family only female
members has the responsibility of cooking. For this kind of gender identity of
women in a patriarchal society, neither household works nor women ever treated
seriously. Though women do tremendous job in everyday life to run a family but
they never get a piece of appreciation. They have always treated as second sex
in a patriarchal society.
But after many years of struggle and movements,
women have snatched some rights for themselves. These struggles and movements
have some impacts on literature. Some narrators take inspiration from feminist
movements and reflect it in their creation. These kind of literatures play an
important role to know the situation of women in our society and analyse it. In
Kallal Lahiri’s ‘Induabla Bhater Hotel’, an exiled women treis to build her own
identity through her dishes. Her journey has become a journey of self exploration.
