ABSTRACT | ||
The process of restoring the
social status of a group of people who are deprived, humiliated, and neglected
in society in various ways, by increasing their skills, potential, and strength
is what is called empowerment in sociology. In our country, women have been
neglected and deprived in various ways since ancient times. Re-establishing
their rights and social respect is known as 'women empowerment'. To establish equality
in men and women, the government has taken many steps at present. But if we
look back at the history of our country, we will see that the process of women
empowerment started in subjugated India. Raja Rammohan Roy, one of the social
reformers of India, ignored the adverse social and religious conditions of that
time and stood by the side of women. He fought to protect their rights. Just as
he restored women's right to life by abolishing sati, he also promoted the
importance of women in the public mind by speaking out against child marriage,
caste system, etc. He tried to make the people of India realize that women are
not objects, but living beings. He also thought about the economic empowerment
of women. That is why he brought the issue of women's rights in their father's
and husband's property before the British government. He tried to implement all
the things that are beyond the imagination of today's modern people in those
adverse times. In fact, he is a modern hero of all times. | ||
