In our daily lives, we constantly engage in various activities through which we try to achieve our goals, and by doing so, we directly contribute to the well-being of the people around us and the development of our society. Through appropriate actions, an individual helps in their own progress as well as the advancement of society. The morality of actions, notions of good and bad, etc., are included within ethics. Morality is expressed through individuals and the moral norms of their society; however, the moral norms of every society are not the same. Moral philosophers believe that moral principles are universal, independent of time and place. Therefore, human beings are always bound by moral principles. Moral development of a person is closely related to morality itself. The role of psychology in moral development is very important, because human moral behavior, decisions, and values are all deeply connected with mental processes. Psychology explains how people learn morality from childhood to adulthood. Therefore, in this article, the discussion has focused on moral development as it is closely connected with ethics. What is meant by moral development and what its conditions are have been discussed in this paper. An individual’s moral development is linked with their mental development; hence, how a person’s moral level is related to their mind and the views of psychologists on this matter have also been presented in this paper. In the field of moral development, how an individual progresses through various constructive mental stages and accelerates their development has been discussed with reference to the opinions of psychologists such as Piaget and Lawrence Kohlberg, which are also included in this article. | ||
