The topic of the essay is
‘Bengali Poetries in Bengali Cinema since the birth of the 21st Century’.
Generally, different types of songs are used to create the ambience of scenes
in cinema. But the use of poetry to create the mood and sense of the background
is really interesting! Here, words, verse, meter, and the significance are the
determinants of the whole scene. It’s not at all a ‘common’ thing to use poetry
in Bengali cinema. But some directors have made use of Bengali poems for this
purpose and created a magic indeed! Here, the most important factor is Imagery.
Both in Cinema and Poetry, the focus of perception is the ability to think and
feel, the magic of thought and language in poetry, and of sight and sound in
film. Incessantly, there is poetry in film, film in poetry, or altogether with
an indescribable feeling. Twenty-one Bengali films where Bengali poetries have
been used in a stunning way, are discussed in this essay. When a camera is
placed in place of a pen, poetry becomes a moving art. Symbols are created
through a scene in a film. A scene of the film becomes a word of the poem, the
'sequence' is its foot, and the 'cut' is like various punctuation marks. The
world is a collection of dynamic images. It is an endless film itself. As
Shakespeare said, life is a moving stage. The language of any poem needs to
have explanatory quality, image quality, and film quality. When the feeling of
motion and mystical perception of poetry is combined with the atmosphere of the
film, a mental relief is created. Sometimes movies become poetic, and poetry
sometimes becomes cinematic also. In this essay, it is discussed how the
poetries have been used in films, whether they have been treated properly or
not, what the impact of those poems is, whether there is any limitation to use
poetries in each type of film, and above all, the importance of making such
poetic films is the primary outline of the essay. | ||
