ABSTRACT | ||
The
natural tendency of humans is to bring something novel to the center of
discussion. Here, the word ‘novel’ is particularly significant. Bengali poetry,
since its inception (Charyapada), has been constantly evolving. If its
trajectory had remained the same, the word ‘novel’ would have been redundant.
However, the diverse treasure trove of Bengali poetry has not disappointed us;
it has taken turns like the flow of a river, and repeatedly so. This turning
point is what Rabindranath Tagore referred to as ‘modern’. In the post-2001
contemporary Bengali poetry, it is not difficult to find originality. If we
read the recent poems with a deeper understanding, we can see the novelty in
many of them. Following the rule of change in Bengali poetry, there has been a
clear transformation in the post-2001 contemporary Bengali poetry. And, it is
undeniable that this change in the Bengali poetry scene is more vibrant and lively
compared to previous times. In this article, we will attempt to understand how
contemporary Bengali poetry is becoming ‘new in form, new in spirit’ with each
passing moment. The new thoughts, distinct mentality, and above all, the
all-encompassing experience of the 21st-century poets have gradually propelled
them towards creating superior poetry. We will try to explore how the essence
of 21st-century poetry is emerging through a few aspects. | ||
