The Present as The Past: Colonial Roots of Indigenous Displacement and Resistance in Contemporary India Md Azaharuddin, Assistant Teacher, Parbatipur Junior Basic School, West Bengal, India | ||
ABSTRACT | ||
The research paper investigates how
present-day tribal dislocation in India stems from historical events by
examining the connections between colonial forest management practices and
present-day development frameworks. The study demonstrates that current tribal
community displacements represent a continuation of colonial practices that
controlled indigenous territories and natural resources and native cultural
heritage. The British Raj period established forest regulations that changed
tribal people from landowners into state-defined subjects. The systems that
excluded people from society continued to operate after independence through
their implementation in state-backed development activities, mining operations,
and environmental protection initiatives. The research study uses Michel
Foucault's and Ranajit Guha's theoretical frameworks to study how power
operates in both colonial and modern institutional environments. In my recharge
