ABSTRACT | ||
This
essay, focusing on one of the greatest Bengali poets of the 20th century, Kazi
Nazrul Islam, analyzes the non-communal spirit inherent in his life and
literature and his unique role as a 'harbinger of harmony'. The main aim of
this research is to understand the relevance of Nazrul-Manas in the context of
growing intolerance and instability in the current world. The article measures
the depth of Nazrul's philosophy based on three main pillars - theological
liberalism, political communism and musical syncretism. In particular, the way
in which Nazrul composed bhajans and devotional songs in worship of Goddess
Shyama, Sri Krishna, Saraswati and Maheshwar Shiva, in parallel with Islamic
ghazals and naats, is discussed with great importance in this study. It is
identified as a document of eternal friendship in religious traditions. In
addition, the infallible truth that 'man' is above all identities in Nazrul's
political philosophy—"There is nothing greater than man, nothing
greater"—has shed light on his role in eliminating social and gender
inequality. The message of international friendship and universal humanity that
he propagated through his translated literature is a unique aspect of the
article. Ultimately, this study proves that Nazrul's philosophy of harmony is
not just a historical discussion, but rather an essential and eternal pole star
for overcoming the current global crisis. | ||
