Empowerment of Dalit Women in India Dr. Jayita Pal, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, Rishi Bankim Chandra Evening College, West Bengal, India | ||
ABSTRACT | ||
The issues of Dalit women in India have got
relevance in recent political scenario in India. The question frequently arises
that does the world inhabited by women fall under the same mainstream society
that we live. Even though women make up half the population they are the most
oppressed and neglected. If they belong to dalit category their problems are
becoming even more acute. Alongside the empowerment of Dalit Women, their
rights mentioned in constitution and the challenges they face have also been discussed
here. Indian society is divided by caste system and varna based discrimination.
It is through his hands that untouchability has entered in our society. In
respect of dalit women these problems are more acute. Alongside untouchability
they face the problems of patriarchy and poverty. As a result, they are far
away from mainstream education, health, job opportunity, wages and from
political participation. Even though their rights are guaranteed by the
constitution, they continue to be exploited every time.
