Among SantoshKumar Ghosh’s remarkable novels such as ‘Kinu
Gowalar Goli’, ‘Shesh Nomoskar Shricharoneshu Ma-ke’, ‘Swayang
Nayak’, and ‘Jal Dao’, the novel ‘Sei Pakhi’ occupies
a significant place. In this work, Ghosh demonstrates distinct variety in both
narrative structure and artistic form. Within literary studies, particularly in
the analysis of novels, narrative design and artistic form are considered
essential components. The artistic form of a novel reflects the individuality
of the author, manifested through language, style of expression, choice of
words, rhythm, and imagery.
On the other hand, the narrative serves as the backbone of
the novel. In ‘Sei Pakhi’, the narrative revolves around the
character of Arindam—a murderer as well as a patient—who is interrogated by the
psychologist Mandira. This technique of interrogation distinguishes the novel
from others in Ghosh’s oeuvre. The climax centers on why and how Arindam
committed murder. Equally compelling is the psychological dimension: how
Arindam, as an accused, is influenced by Mandira, and conversely, how Mandira
herself exerts psychological impact on him. Such dual perspectives enrich the
narrative depth.
Furthermore, the use of flashback technique adds complexity
and dramatic tension to the storyline. Hence, the central aim of this research
article is to analyze how Santosh Kumar Ghosh, through Sei Pakhi,
has introduced new dimensions in both narrative construction and artistic form. | ||
